chabasai® is a natural substrate specifically chosen for the cultivation of non acidophilic bonsai trees. It is, in fact, chabasite, a mineral which belongs to the large zeolite family of minerals.

chabasai® is the purest, most well adapted chabasite for bonsai cultivation.

chabasai®’s exceptional physico-chemical properties make it a substrate which is incomparable with other materials such as pumice or pozzolan.

chabasai® does not swell or disintegrate upon the addition of water or with variations in temperature.

chabasai® is generally used pure but can be mixed with other substrates.

A unique drainage/retention ratio: The level of water retention is in the region of 48% by weight, but chabasai® remains totally aerated thanks to its very high porosity which allows water to be stored within the granules whilst air can circulate between them.

The buffering effectof Chabasai maintains a neutral pH within the substrate.

The particle size of Chabasai is 2-5mm, which is the ideal size for well formed trees.

chabasai® is sterile. It does not contain any pathogenic organisms.

Abundant root growth
is one of the main benefits of using chabasai®. The rounded granular shape and softness of the mineral help to prevent damage to tender new roots.

chabasai® offers an exceptional ion exchange capacity of 230 meq/100g. Furthermore, it contains cations such as potassium, magnesium and calcium (and other elements such as iron) which are slowly liberated to provide a constant source of nutrition to your bonsai tree.

The adsorbtion capacity of chabasai® allows both a reduction in the number of waterings required and a reduction in fertilizer consumption. This is due to the improved water and nutrient retention by the substrate, and subsequent reduction in losses through drainage and evaporation.
